Cozy Mountain Cabin

Since I always have a hard time figuring out what to get people for Christmas, this year I decided to do something a little different for Bill. He never gives me good ideas of what to get him, but he feeds the line, 'I just want to spend time with my wifie'. So, this year, I wrapped up a box full of stuff for a trip that I had half way-planned for the two of us. We are going to Lake Tahoe in March and so I thought it might be a good idea to practice a little skiing before we hit the big slopes...

Bill decided that for his Christmas present he wanted to go to the NC moutains. This past weekend we went to Banner Elk, NC and spent a long weekend in the mountains. We ended up skiing for a grand total of 4 hours - which was enough for the both of us! We were really sore afterwards and it made us realize we need to get our stability muscles a little more in shape before heading out west.

We were also able to hike to Linville falls, even though the trail was iced over. It was a nice little adventure and we weren't the only crazy ones trying to see the falls. The falls were beautiful with the some snow and ice in the background. Its definitely worth the trip - and the hike is under a mile. We were going to drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but parts of it were closed, so we drove down the state roads where the snow had been plowed.

The weekend before our mountain trip, Durham got a little bit of snow to speak of. I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed, especially with all of the hype that came with it, but even so we got a dusting of snow that must be noted. Cedar didn't appreciate us wanting to cart him out while it was still snowing, so I had to carry him half way through the neighborhood.
